| The Lion King is the story of a young lion cub named Simba who struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destined role as king. To bring the classic 1994 film to life, Disney turned to the story's roots, its rich mythology, powerful human drama, and primal African rhythms to create a fantastic new musical unlike anything Broadway has ever seen. Winner of six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, The Lion King is an adventure into another world. |

Disney's film The Lion King was a beloved blockbuster, the most successful movie in the studio's history. It's a lovingly executed work that skillfully mixes sentiment with action and humor. But the movie's adorable lions, hyenas, and monkeys don't escape the traditional Disney cuteness, and the score is fairly peripheral. If Disney's first stage venture, Beauty and the Beast, worked in spite of a production that was unimaginative in staging and design, its second, The Lion King, is an explosion of theatrical imagination! |
