| The show that gives new meaning to the phrase "killer musical" makes its Broadway debut in a dazzling new production. This strikingly provocative work looks at the lives, loves and lunacy of nine American assassins and would-bes, including John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley, Lee Harvey Oswald and Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme. Assassins features music and lyrics by legendary musical theater composer Stephen Sondheim and a book by John Weidman. |

Tony night was also a happy night for Assassins . The John Weidman / Stephen Sondheim musical picked up five awards, including the prize for Best Revival of a Musical. Its helmer, Joe Mantello, won his second Tony in as many years, copping the Best Direction of a Musical award. Michael Starobin nabbed Best Orchestrations; Michael Cerveris won the Featured Actor in a Musical Tony for his portrayal of John Wilkes Booth; and Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer took the Best Lighting Design award. |
